The world of video games has come on leaps and bounds since I was a youngster, I would fritter away many days waiting for my Commodore 64 tape cassette to load a poorly rendered Back To The Future Part 2 game. We didn’t have any as impressive as Assassin’s Creed or Grand Theft Auto until the Playstation One came out (but back then it was simply known as a Playstation).
After woeful movie adaptations of beloved games like Super Mario Bros, Prince of Persia, Resident Evil and Doom, could the forthcoming Assassin’s Creed starring Michael Fassbender finally deliver a good movie based on a video-game? Well, the first trailer for has arrived and all indications point to a solid maybe.
On the off chance that you haven’t spent months of gaming hours playing the Assassin’s Creed franchise, here’s the official synopsis for the movie.
Assassin’s Creed follows a character by the name of Callum Lynch who, through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, is able to experience the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organisation in the present day.
Directed by Justin Kurzel who helmed last year’s bold retelling of Macbeth, Assassin’s Creed is due out in cinemas on December 21st and also stars Marion Cotillard, Michael K. Williams, Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson. Check out the trailer below.
