Ghostbusters 3

Paul Feig’s reboot of Ghostbusters continues to divide opinions from the hardcore fans, despite what some outlets are reporting the backlash doesn’t stem from the all-female cast. Firstly, it’s insane to dislike a movie remake because they change the gender of the main characters. Secondly, you should only hate a movie if it’s terrible, and thus far Ghostbusters 2.0 has yet to make me excited to see it.

There’s a lack of a Ghostbuster vibe, which is surely a problem for a movie called Ghostbusters. I accept that there is a solid amount of busting ghosts going on in the various promos, but something is missing, and I can’t put my finger on what it is. Sony Pictures released a brand new international trailer loaded with some fresh footage, sadly the thrust of the plot remains a mystery, but at a guess, I’ll wager that there will be some form of paranormal disposal involved.

I’ve enjoyed Feig’s movies so far; Spy was a pleasant surprise and The Heat wonderfully lampooned the buddy-cop genre. I’m not one of these people who feel “like my childhood is being violated” by the reboot, by all means remake something if you have a genuinely new angle on the concept. Sadly, Hollywood studios are keener than ever to revive or adapt known brands as launching original movies is becoming increasingly difficult. I might come to regret the following statement, but I am still optimistic that Feig and co will deliver a fun summer movie that honours the original while being its own thing.

Starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Charles Dance, Michael Kenneth Williams, and Chris Hemsworth. Ghostbusters arrives in cinemas July 15, check out the new international trailer below.

Ghostbusters makes its long-awaited return, rebooted with a cast of hilarious new characters. Thirty years after the beloved original franchise took the world by storm, director Paul Feig brings his fresh take to the supernatural comedy, joined by some of the funniest actors working today – Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth. This summer, they’re here to save the world!
