If you were up late on New Year’s Eve to see in 2018 (and say fudge off to 2017), then you may have noticed a short announcement video from Count Olaf (aka Neil Patrick Harris) casually mentioning the return date for A Series of Unfortunate Events.
“Hey you. Yes you, the one who clearly seems to have burned the midnight oil. I’m so sorry to disturb your ‘recovery’, but it’s time for us to get this New Year’s Day binge started.
Now there may be some of you who are surprised that Netflix would choose this to be the first face you see in 2018. But those are the same people who wouldn’t recognise handsome if it set your house on fire.
So dive on in, distract yourself with this first look at season 2 of A Series of Unfortunate Events. Premiering March 30.“
So there you have it, the Baudelaire children will return to endure more unfortunate events at the hands of Count Olaf. The second season will adapt books five to nine in the series, which include The Austere Academy, The Ersatz Elevator, The Vile Village, The Hostile Hospital and The Carnivorous Carnival. The good news is that Netflix has already renewed the show for a third and final season which will adapt the remaining four books.
I’ve never read the books and I can’t say I loved the Jim Carrey movie. However, the first season on this new take was surprisingly excellent and macabre in equal measures.Neil Patrick Harris will be joined this season by his Doctor Horrible co-star Nathan Fillion (who plays Lemony Snicket’s brother), Tony Hale, and Lucy Punch. All ten episodes of A Series of Unfortunate Events season 2 will be available on Netflix on March 30.
