Good news for US fans for all things Joss Whedon, every episode of Buffy, Firefly, and Angel are available to stream with your chums on Facebook Watch, right now!
Sarah Michelle Gellar announced the exciting news in a Facebook video and said;
“Grab Mr. pointy and your Scooby gang: Every episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer: The Series is now available on Facebook Watch! If you and your friends watch it, does it mean you’re all my Watchers now? Whatevs – Get ready to slay all day!”
In a separate statement, Facebook head of video Fidji Simo said;
“As a teen, I was a big fan of Buffy, which started my embarrassing obsession with vampires to this day. This is only one of the many reasons why I am thrilled that we are bringing every episode of Buffy, Angel and Firefly to Facebook Watch in the U.S. in a way that enables fans to watch and discuss together in real time and in one place.
When we started asking people what can trigger conversations, (nostalgic content) came up as something that’s really interesting to have on the platform. It’s really a way to test this hypothesis.”
Facebook Watch continues to pour investment into new original shows, but they’re doubling down on evergreen classics that continue to spark discussions. The recent news of a Buffy reboot/continuation series only served as a reminder that Buffy’s fanbase has only grown in numbers with a vocal debate regularly trending on social media. Ultimately, Facebook Watch wants to build fan communities around its content (original or nostalgic) and has already had massive success with Live Sports events.
At the time of writing, there are no details on when Buffy, Angel, and Firefly will be added for international Facebook Watch viewers. The deal is not an exclusive one, and all three shows are currently available on Amazon Prime. We’ll be sure to keep you posted on any developments.
