More Than 10 Minutes of Joker’s Scenes Cut From Suicide Squad

Jared Leto as The Joker

The reviews for Suicide Squad are in and much like Batman v Superman, the critics and fans are once again divided. Regardless of what ‘the internet’ is saying, I’m still curious enough about David Ayer’s movie to go and see what all the fuss is about. Fans and critics alike have commented that Jared Leto’s Joker has limited time on screen, Leto was recently quizzed if any of scenes ended up on the cutting room floor and he confirmed that a sizeable chunk of his appearance didn’t make the final cut of the movie.

“Oh, there are a lot of [deleted] scenes, yeah, there are a lot of scenes that didn’t make it to the final film. And hopefully they’ll see the light of day … who knows?”

Before you assume that Suicide Squad will release an ultimate cut like Batman v Superman, director David Ayer stands by the theatrical version of the movie and the deleted scenes might feature on the Blu-ray release.

“We have a chunk [of deleted scenes], there’s definitely over 10 minutes of material on there. But this cut of the movie is my cut, there’s no sort of parallel universe version of the movie, the released movie is my cut. And that’s one of the toughest things about writing, shooting, and directing a film, is you end up with these orphans and you fucking love them and you think they’d be amazing scenes and do these amazing things but the film is a dictatorship (laughs), not a democracy, and just because something’s cool and charismatic doesn’t mean it gets to survive in the final cut. The flow of the movie is the highest master.”

I’ll admit that the ultimate cut of BvS was an improvement on the incoherent plot, but the narrative problems were still there and Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex is still painfully irritating.

Suicide Squad is released in cinemas tomorrow.
