Narcos: Mexico Sets Release Date

If you’ve found yourself addicted to Netflix’s compelling drama Narcos, then this last twelves months have been a trying time. The hit series wrapped up its third season last September, and despite being renewed for a fourth run, there’s been no word on when it will return, until now.

Technically, the new season is a companion series as it relocates the story from Columbia to Mexico and features an entirely new cast. Narcos: Mexico stars Diego Luna (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) as the founder of the modern Mexican drug cartel Félix Gallardo. The usually comedic Michael Pena (Ant-Man and The Wasp) will put his dramatic skills to the test to play undercover DEA agent Kiki Camarena who infiltrates Gallardo’s inner circle.

The production made the headlines last year when location scout Carlos Muñoz Portal was found murdered; the case remains unsolved as the murder took place in such a remote part of the country that there were no witnesses.

Narcos: Mexico lands on Netflix on November 16, 2018. Here’s the official series synopsis;

Shifting away from Colombia, where Narcos spent three seasons, Narcos: Mexico will explore the origins of the modern drug war by going back to its roots, beginning at a time when the Mexican trafficking world was a loose and disorganized confederation of independent growers and dealers. Witness the rise of the Guadalajara Cartel in the 1980s as Félix Gallardo (Diego Luna) takes the helm, unifying traffickers in order to build an empire. When DEA agent Kiki Camarena (Michael Peña) moves his wife and young son from California to Guadalajara to take on a new post, he quickly learns that his assignment will be more challenging than he ever could have imagined. As Kiki garners intelligence on Félix and becomes more entangled in his mission, a tragic chain of events unfold, affecting the drug trade and the war against it for years to come.
