A new trailer for the Child’s Play reboot has arrived, and we get a full look at the upgraded murderous doll.
The remake to the cult classic horror that featured Brad Dourif voicing the flame-haired killer doll has been greeted with a mixed reaction from horror fans. Chucky creator, Don Mancini, has continued the franchise with direct to DVD sequels, and his lack of involvement didn’t go down well with fans. Add to that no Dourif lending his voice to Chucky, and this was a remake that seemed doomed. However, the first trailer presented a solid horror; then it was revealed that Mark Hamill would be voicing Chucky. Brad Dourif is and will always be Chucky; in fact, he’ll be returning to the character very soon for a TV series from Don Mancini that picks up after the last movie. But Hamill is a darn fine choice for the “reimagined” Chucky.
We all know that Hamill’s work as The Joker is legendary, and that’s just one of many iconic characters he’s brought to life using just his voice. Perhaps the new Child’s Play won’t be as bad as some cynical fans (like me) first thought, maybe it could turn out alright? Just to play Devil’s Advocate for a moment, if the remake is awful then it can join the long list of failed reboots that everybody casually learns to forget ever happened.
Child’s Play scurries into US cinemas this June.
“The story follows a mother named Karen (Aubrey Plaza) who gives her son Andy (Gabriel Bateman) a toy doll, Chucky (Mark Hamill), though both aren’t aware of its evil nature.”
