After the ridiculous yet surprisingly heartfelt swansong for the character with Rocky Balboa back in 2006, the world thought it had seen the last of Sylvester Stallone portraying the iconic fictional boxer. However, a spin-off arrived with Ryan Coogler’s Creed hitting cinemas in 2015, and it continued the Rocky Legacy it a fresh way and delivered a knockout movie. Emotionally charged, fearless direction and a return to the spirit of the first Rocky, Creed garnered Stallone an Academy Award nomination.
Jump cut to present day and the first trailer for Creed II has landed with Michael B. Jordan back as Adonis to face the most challenging battle of his life. While we don’t see much of it in this first promo, Creed II will feature Adonis square off in the ring against the son of the man who killed his father, Viktor Drago (Florian Munteanu). Dolph Lungren will also be back as Ivan Drago, and we’ve been promised some form of a rematch between him and Balboa. Don’t panic; they won’t be fighting in the ring, if they come to blows, it will likely be in a bar or alleyway.
Also starring Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad, Andre Ward, and Wood Harris, Creed II is released in UK cinemas on November 30.
Life has become a balancing act for Adonis Creed. Between personal obligations and training for his next big fight, he is up against the challenge of his life. Facing an opponent with ties to his family’s past only intensifies his impending battle in the ring. Rocky Balboa is there by his side through it all and, together, Rocky and Adonis will confront their shared legacy, question what’s worth fighting for, and discover that nothing’s more important than family. Creed II is about going back to basics to rediscover what made you a champion in the first place, and remembering that, no matter where you go, you can’t escape your history.
