The first trailer for the long awaited sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon has arrived. Fifteen years after Ang Lee’s groundbreaking movie, Sword Of Destiny forges a new chapter in the saga.
The distribution of Sword of Destiny has ruffled some feathers amongst the cinema-chain world, with AMC and Regal refusing to show the film theatrically.
“We license just the technology from IMAX. Only AMC and [its parent company] Wanda decide what programming plays in our respective theatres. No one has approached us to license this made-for-video sequel in the U.S. or China, so one must assume the screens IMAX committed are in science centres and aquariums.”
Netflix annoyed a few of the big industry higher ups when they nabbed the sequel and the streaming giant struck a unique deal with IMAX for a limited theatrical run. That said, the comments from AMC above don’t suggest that Sword of Destiny is going to enjoy much success of the big screen.
Starring Donnie Yen, Michelle Yeoh, Harry Shum, Jr., Jason Scott Lee, Roger Yuan, Eugenia Yuan, JuJu Chan, Chris Pang. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword Of Destiny is available to stream on Netflix from February 8, 2016.
The fight to keep a great warrior’s sword from an evil warlord will change them in ways they never imagined.
