A modern take on David Cronenberg’s intense 1988 thriller starring Jeremy Irons sees Rachel Weisz taking on the double-lead roles of Elliot and Beverly Mantle, twins who share everything: drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes—including pushing the boundaries of medical ethics—in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s health care to the forefront.
I’ll admit to not being hugely excited about this when I heard it was happening, but this first look at the six-episode limited series looks very promising. It’s great to see Rachel Weisz back on our screens in what looks like two wildly different yet complex performances. Developed and written by Alice Birch (The Wonder), this modern take on Cronenberg’s cult classic arrives on Amazon Prime on April 21.
Dead Ringers isn’t the only 80s thriller to be given TV series treatment this year, as Paramount+ recently debuted the first trailer for their new version of Fatal Attraction. Starring Joshua Jackson and Lizzy Caplin, Fatal Attraction also debuts this month on April 30.
