The first trailer for Disney’s live-action remake of Mulan has arrived, and this could be the first essential live-action remake Disney has offered up thus far. The building blocks for Disney animated classic was based on the narrative poem The Ballad of Mulan, which gets a fresh(ish) spin on the material for the live-action remake.
I’ll be blunt; I’ve yet to love any of the live-action remakes so far. I thought The Jungle Book had some heart, but beyond that, the likes of Dumbo, Aladdin, Beauty and The Beast, Cinderella, and both Alice in Wonderlands left me cold. The only one I’ve really warmed to was the underrated Christopher Robin. However, Mulan looks like it is offering more than a simple redo of a beloved story.
Starring Yifei Liu as Mulan alongside Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Gong Li, and Jet Li, Mulan is released in cinemas on March 27, 2020.
