The first trailer for Shane Black’s The Predator has arrived, and it looks set to restore this franchise to former glories. Back in 2010, Predators was meant to get things back to basics with the action returning to an unforgiving jungle setting. However, all Nimrod Antal’s clunky offering did was turn out another disappointing entry in the Predator saga.

Shane Black has a long history with the franchise as he appeared in the original Predator as Rick Hawkins, a member of Dutch’s team. Black reunites with his Monster Squad co-writer Fred Dekker for the script, which was more than enough to get me excited for this movie. While it doesn’t look mindblowing, it’s only a first teaser, and it already seems more entertaining than any of those AVP horror shows.

Starring Boyd Holbrook (Logan), Thomas Jane, Jake Busey (who is confirmed to be playing the son of Gary Busey’s character from Predator 2, nice), and Keegan-Michael Key. The rest of the cast includes Edward James Olmos, Trevante Rhodes, Augusto Aguilera, Alfie Allen, Olivia Munn, Yvonne Strahovski, and Jacob Tremblay (Room, Wonder, The Magic Ferret).

The Predator lands in UK cinemas on September 14.

From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.
