The first trailer for the Disney+ reimagining of Home Alone has arrived, and based on this promo; it has all the energy of the straight to DVD Home Alone 4: Taking Back The House with the budget of Home Alone 2 Lost In New York.
Jojo Rabbit’s Archie Yates takes on the leading role as Max Mercer, a 10-year old boy who (you guessed it) gets left Home Alone at Christmas while a pair of clumsy thieves (played by Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney) attempt to break into the family home. Thankfully, young Archie has been schooled in the art of making dangerous boobytraps around the house and making a snooker ball powered launcher out of household items.
Macaulay Culkin and Devin Ratray (Buzz) make cameos as their respective original characters, with the rest of the cast being rounded out by Aisling Bea, Kenan Thompson, Pete Holmes, Ally Maki, and Chris Parnell. I have a lot of nostalgic love for the first two Home Alone movies; the subsequent three sequels range from unfunny to cringeworthy levels of unwatchable. Home Sweet Home Alone might turn out better than the trailer suggests, but based on this, I’ll stick with the original and its sequel.
Home Sweet Home Alone arrives on Disney+ on Disney+ Day, which, if you didn’t already know, is on November 12.
Max Mercer is a 10-year-old boy who is grounded and left home alone for the holidays when his family goes on a trip to Japan. Now he must work to defend his home from a married couple who arrives there to steal a priceless heirloom.
