Following the previous speculation that Jessica Chastain was interested in taking on the role of the grown-up Beverly in IT Chapter 2, the Oscar-nominated actress is officially in talks to join the horror sequel.
Chastain worked with IT director Andy Muschietti and his producer sister Barbra on Mama, and here’s what she previously said on the subject of IT Chapter 2.
“Well, I love Andy and [producer] Barbara [Muschietti]. I worked with them on Andy’s directorial debut, you know, his film, Mama. His first film. And you know, Barbara is one of my best friends so…We’ll see…Listen, of course, I want to work… they’re my friends. They’re like my family. Anything that they’re doing I want to be a part of, so I hope we can make it happen.”
While I think Amy Adams would have been equally suitable (Sophia Lillis is a dead ringer for Adams), Chastain is a formidable choice for the role. Unlike the 1990 TV mini-series, the IT cinematic adaptation is split into two chapters; the first focused on the Losers’ Club as youngsters, the sequel will chart their final battle with the malevolent creature from another dimension.
IT surprised everybody with a monstrous opening weekend and went on to gross a whopping $700 million worldwide. A lean $35 million production budget generated mighty profits for Warner Bros, so much so that those losses on Justice League won’t be deeply felt. Andy Muschietti is expected to return to direct IT Chapter 2, and filming is due to start this summer. There are currently no further details on casting, all we know for sure is that Gary Dauberman is once again working on the script and Bill Skarsgard will be back as Pennywise. Before Chapter 2 arrives in cinemas, a Director’s Cut of IT is set for Home Entertainment release later this year.
IT Chapter 2 is released September 6, 2019.
