Back in 2017, I don’t think anybody was expecting Jumanji Welcome To The Jungle to be a massive hit (making almost $1 billion worldwide) or one of the enjoyable blockbusters of the year. However, that’s how it played out, and now the sequel is on its way. The first trailer for Jumanji: The Next Level has arrived, and it looks like we’re in for another crowd-pleasing romp.
The quartet of youngsters are back with Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Ser’Darius Blain, and Morgan Turner, only this time there’s a glitch in the game. Martha (Morgan Turner) manages to return to Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillian), but the rest of the characters end up in different avatars, and there’s a couple of newbies to the players. Well, oldies would be more accurate with Danny Devito’s gruff Grandpa now in the Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson) avatar, Danny Glover is Franklin Finbar (Kevin Hart), and Anthony (Ser’Darius Blain) is Professor Sheldon Oberon (Jack Black). As soon as it was clear that Devito’s character was going to be played in the game by Dwayne Johnson, I was all in on this sequel. I had thought that the plot would revolve around the game characters coming into the real world, but should the Next Level make enough cash, there could well be another sequel.
Also starring Nick Jonas, Colin Hanks, Awkwafina, and Rhys Darby, Jumanji will once again lock horns with a Star Wars sequel this Christmas, but as Welcome to the Jungle held up remarkably well there is no cause for concern. Once again directed by Jake Kasden, Jumanji The Next Level arrives in cinemas December 13.
In Jumanji: The Next Level, the gang is back but the game has changed. As they return to Jumanji to rescue one of their own, they discover that nothing is as they expect. The players will have to brave parts unknown and unexplored, from the arid deserts to the snowy mountains, in order to escape the world’s most dangerous game.
