Tremors

Earlier this year when Kevin Bacon expressed interest in revisiting the Tremors franchise, we just chalked it up to nostalgia as the movie celebrated its 25th anniversary.

“I’d love to do something else with Tremors and revisit the character 25 years later. Part of what’s great about that movie is there are next to no digital effects. The monsters are done with puppetry, and it’s still off, funny and scary — it’s a cool accomplishment.”

According to EW, Bacon will produce and star in a TV series revival of the cult favourite and he will be back in the saddle as Valentine McKee. Since Fox called time on The Following, Kevin Bacon has been looking for a new TV project to sink his teeth into. The moody thriller started strongly, but for me all the dramatic tension had been milked from The Following halfway through the second season. Still, Bacon was on good form and it might be the nostalgia talking, but I think a new Tremors TV show is a mother humping good idea.

The Tremors franchise was recently revived with another DTV sequel starring Michael Gross as Burt Gummer, Tremors Bloodlines was the fifth in the series and hit DVD shelves earlier this year. The first attempt at a Tremors TV show didn’t pan out so well even with Michael Gross as Burt (plus Dean Norris) leading the cast. The network aired episodes our of chronological order, and as a result the series failed to find an audience and was swiftly cancelled. To be fair, it was pretty terrible, so that likely played more of an active role in its cancellation.

There are no details on if Bacon’s Tremors co-star Fred Ward will be back in action, so for now just accept the fact that Bacon will be taking on the Graboids once again.
