By the power of Grayskull! The first trailer for Kevin Smith’s Masters of the Universe: Revelation has arrived, and it does not disappoint. Almost four decades after the end of the original Masters of the Universe animated series, it is time to journey back to Eternia for the long-awaited Masters of the Universe: Revelation.
Created by Kevin Smith, the new series trailer has just arrived, and if any of the more recent versions of He-Man didn’t do it for you, Smith’s take is a love letter to the original series as it picks up where the 1980s show ended.
“After a cataclysmic battle between He-Man and Skeletor, Eternia is fractured and the Guardians of Grayskull are scattered. And after decades of secrets tore them apart, it’s up to Teela to reunite the broken band of heroes, and solve the mystery of the missing Sword of Power in a race against time to restore Eternia and prevent the end of the universe.”
Like many kids born in the 80s, the original He-Man series holds a special place in my heart; that special place was invaded by the Dolph Lundgren led Masters of the Universe movie. The live-action He-Man motion picture was not a success, by any definition of the word. Can it be enjoyed from a “so bad it’s good” point of view? Not really, as it’s a cash grab attempt that borrows from the likes of Star Wars with wild abandon to no real impact. Aside from Lundgren, who manages against all odd to keep a straight face doing 90% of the movie in his underpants.
Featuring Chris Wood as Prince Adam / He-Man, Mark Hamill as Skeletor, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Teela, Liam Cunningham as Man-At-Arms, Lena Headey as Evil-Lyn, Diedrich Bader as King Randor and Trap Jaw, and Alicia Silverstone as Queen Marlena, Masters of the Universe: Revelation Part 1 arrives on Netflix on July 23.
