Revenge is the name of the game, as martial arts legend Jean-Claude Van Damme and Guardians of the Galaxy and Spectre superstar Dave Bautista team up for the ultimate tag team smackdown in this bone-crunching action spectacular.
I have a special place in my heart for the early work of Jean-Claude Van Damme, while he’s enjoying a comeback with his hit Amazon series (Jean-Claude Van Johnson), there’s something special about his early movies. Released back in 1989, Kickboxer is one of my favourite flicks from the Van Damage vaults, and the reboot arrives on DVD, Blu-ray and VOD this December.
After witnessing his brother being killed in the ring in a brutal bout in Thailand, young kickboxer Kurt decides to train under the tutelage of his brother’s legendary, no-nonsense coach Durand, in order to take-on Tong Po, the man responsible for his brother’s death. Durand doesn’t feel Kurt has what it takes to defeat the awesome strength of Tong Po. But Durand doesn’t reckon on Kurt’s powerful and unquenchable thirst for vengeance.
Van Damme takes on the role of the “no-nonsense coach Durand” and will likely make the new Sloan kick a tree down, Sloan will be up against Dave Bautista as the infamous Tong Po. The good news is that a sequel has already been made with a third entry in the rebooted franchise set to film early next year.
Kickboxer: Vengeance is released on Digital and VOD from December 2nd and hits DVD & Blu-ray 5th December. For the avid collector, there’s also a Special Edition Box Set which includes the original Kickboxer movie and Kickboxer: Vengeance.
