While it might seem like we haven’t had a Christopher Nolan picture in decades, it has only been three years since Interstellar hit cinemas. In keeping with the unpredictable nature that has served Nolan well, I don’t think anybody anticipated he would follow Interstellar with a harrowing World War II film.
The first teaser for Dunkirk gave us a taste of the spectacular aerial battles and stunning cinematography from Hoyte van Hoytema (Interstellar). However, the second full trailer doesn’t hold back and showcases more of the action.
The release of a new Christopher Nolan film is always cause for celebration, even more so as Nolan has filmed huge portions of the film using IMAX cameras. I can’t wait to see how that looks on an IMAX screen. War movies on this scale are seldom made these days, but thankfully, Nolan is at the stage in his career that he can pretty much make whatever the hell he wants. On a side note, I’m a tad concerned that Nolan’s lucky charm aka Sir Michael Caine doesn’t seem to be involved, not even a cameo.
Starring Fionn Whitehead, Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance, Cillian Murphy, Aneurin Barnard, James D’Arcy, Jack Lowden, Barry Keoghan, Tom Glynn-Carney, and former One Direction singer Harry Styles in his acting debut. Dunkirk is released in UK on July 21, check out the new trailer below.
“Dunkirk” opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.”
