The name Castle Rock will be familiar to even the most casual of Stephen King readers as the small Maine town that features in many of his books. Yes, it’s also a reference to Lord of the Flies, and Rob Reiner set up a production company in 1991 called Castle Rock Entertainment (they even made a couple of Stephen King movies), but neither of those things form the basis for Hulu’s ambitious new series.
A brand new trailer for Castle Rock has landed, and it’s loaded with even more Stephen King easter eggs than the previous promos. Can you spot them all? Starring André Holland, Bill Skarsgård, Melanie Lynskey, Scott Glenn, Sissy Spacek, Jane Levy, Terry O’Quinn, and Allison Tolman. Castle Rock will launch on Hulu on July 24 with new episodes airing weekly. What’s that you say? You don’t live in America and want to watch the show? Well, there are currently no details on where or when Castle Rock will arrive in the UK. Fellow Hulu series The Handmaid’s Tale is broadcast on Channel 4, and while it’s nowhere near as bleak, Channel 4 is a likely candidate to pick up Castle Rock. The fictional Maine town of Castle Rock has figured prominently in King’s literary career: Cujo, The Dark Half, IT and Needful Things, as well as novella The Body and numerous short stories such as Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption are either set there or contain references to Castle Rock. Castle Rock is an original suspense/thriller — a first-of-its-kind reimagining that explores the themes and worlds uniting the entire King canon, while brushing up against some of his most iconic and beloved stories.
