sharknado-4

File this one under wishful thinking; Sharknado star Ian Ziering spoke to Digital Spy about the future of TV franchise and he is hoping for a big screen spin-off with Arnie.

“I’d be happy to be part of these movies for as long as they continue to be entertainment for the masses. I think perhaps one day in the future we’ll even see this as a feature film. I’m sure Arnold could help me kill some sharks!

I couldn’t have possibly predicted this. This is something that major motion picture studios spend millions of dollars on, [trying] to achieve this kind of success. You always hope for the best but you can’t predict it.”

It is strange to hear Ziering aspire to make a ‘feature film’ as the promos for the latest instalment openly mocks big budget studio sequels. Even stranger is the fact that a theatrically released Sharknado isn’t as ridiculous as it sounds. Full disclosure, I’m not a huge fan of this particular ‘so bad it’s good’ franchise, but it shows no sign of slowing down any time soon.

The inclusion of Arnie might be a bit optimistic, his  return to The Terminator universe didn’t have the desired impact, far from a flop but not quite a hit (yet). Even though his box office clout might not be what it was, I just can’t see Arnie teaming up with the likes of Tara Reid and David Hasselhoff.

The spoof franchise has surpassed all expectations and has become a huge ratings draw around the world. The latest entry, Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!, premieres on UK screens Thursday July 23 at 10pm on Syfy.
