No, your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you that’s John C. Reilly and Steve Coogan as silver screen legends Laurel and Hardy. The first trailer for Stan & Ollie has arrived which you can watch above.
Directed by Jon S. Baird (Filth), and written by Jeff Pope (who co-wrote Philomena with Coogan) Stan & Ollie beautifully captures the era and pulls no punches peaking behind the curtain of the world’s most beloved double act. While this first trailer shows off a bit too much of the film, it does a rousing job of selling both leading men as the legendary duo. We’ll have to wait and see, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Stan & Ollie winds up as a serious Oscar contender.
Stan & Ollie gets its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on October 21 before hitting cinemas nationwide on January 11, 2019.
The true story of Hollywood’s greatest comedy double act, Laurel and Hardy, is brought to the big screen for the first time. Starring Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly as the inimitable movie icons, Stan & Ollie is the heart-warming story of what would become the pair’s triumphant farewell tour.
With their golden era long behind them, the pair embark on a variety hall tour of Britain and Ireland. Despite the pressures of a hectic schedule, and with the support of their wives Lucille (Shirley Henderson) and Ida (Nina Arianda) – a formidable double act in their own right – the pair’s love of performing, as well as for each other, endures as they secure their place in the hearts of their adoring public.
