STEVE JOBS 1955 – 2011

jobs_3230753bAs has already been widely reported for the last day or so, Apple boss Steve Jobs has passed away at the age of 56.

While other people are more qualified to explain the impact he had on the computer and technologies industries than I am (although if you’re reading this on an iPhone or iPad you won’t need telling) I just wanted to remind you that he was also CEO of Pixar from his purchase of the company from Lucasfilm in 1986 until their sale to Disney in 2006.

He was responsible for taking a company that only dreamed they might one day make a feature length computer animated movie and helped turn them into the single most profitable studio in history, changing cinema and the way we appreciate movies in the process. Pixar’s impressively long list of well-beloved characters stand as a testament to the quality of work they created under his leadership and there’s a short but touching tribute to him on the Pixar website from founders John Lasseter and Ed Catmull. His place in business history was never in doubt. His place in cinema history shouldn’t be either.
