This Father’s Day, STUDIOCANAL Presents is the go-to destination for all of dad’s entertainment needs. Their streaming library offers a wide range of content, including war movies, comedy films, action-packed adventures, and compelling TV series. On June 16th, it’s time to give the remote control to the father figure in your life so he can choose what to watch. For a wealth of choices for Dad, look no Father than Studiocanal Presents.
Here’s a selection of the films available for streaming, catering to every dad’s taste.
Action Dad
Among the many choices for armchair action enthusiasts are 90s classic Cliffhanger starring Sylvester Stallone, Liam Neeson in Non-Stop and The Commuter, Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky, plus the original Rambo trilogy. There’s also Ben Wheatley’s criminally underrated Free Fire, starring Sharlto Copley, Brie Larson, and Cillian Murphy.
Suppose he prefers his boom-rat-tat-tat to be more war-based. In that case, there’s Francis Ford Coppola’s Vietnam masterpiece Apocalypse Now: Final Cut, the original Dunkirk starring John Mills and Richard Attenborough, Robert De Niro in The Deerhunter, and Matthew McConaughey in the tense U-571.
Horror Dad
There’s Sam Rami’s legendary Evil Dead 2, a double helping of John Carpenter with They Live, plus Prince of Darkness for the horror aficionados. If Dad is a fan of world cinema, he’s in for a treat with the South Korean horror Train to Busan and its spin-off, Peninsula.
Michael Fassbender and Jack O’Connell star in Eden Lake (a film that contains a scene that still makes me wince), and Nicolas Cage stars in a nightmarish adaption of H.P Lovecraft’s Color Out Of Space.
Thrillseeker Dad
If your pop prefers to only use the edge of his seat for his TV viewing, there’s a knockout selection of thrillers. Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone star in steamy thriller Basic Instinct, Joaquin Phoenix gives an electric performance in You Were Never Really Here, and The Coen Brother’s Blood Simple.
Everyone loves a good murder mystery, and there’s a triple helping of classic Agatha Christine adaptions with Murder on the Orient Express, Evil Under the Sun and Death on the Nile.
Sci-Fi Dad
For the lover of all things sci-fi, there’s plenty to choose from, with the time-loop thriller Source Code, Arnold Schwarzenegger in the iconic Total Recall, Jean-Claude Van Damme facing off against Dolph Lundgren in Universal Soldier, and Kurt Russell as the brilliantly named Snake Plissken in John Carpenter’s Escape From New York.
There are also the two technically unofficial Doctor Who films that horror icon Peter Cushing starred in as the Time Lord, Dr Who and the Daleks, and Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150AD. They might not be part of the Whoniverse, but they’re a lot of fun.
Family Fun Dad
There’s no better time to gather around the TV to watch a family movie—or, to be more specific, watch Paddington 1 and 2 back to back for a double bill of feel-good. Ahead of the release of the third instalment, Paddington in Peru, check back in with the world’s most beloved bear, sorry, not sorry, Rupert. There are also both the Shaun the Sheep movies and, for the slightly older audience members, the 80s cult classic Flash Gordon.
Joker Dad
Laugh with Dad for a change with classic comedies Kind Hearts and Cornets, The Lavender Hill Mob, or Mel Brook’s legendary The Producers. Alan Partridge Alpha Papa, dark comedy The Guard starring Don Cheadle and Brendan Gleeson, but there’s a true comedy gem waiting to be discovered with the brilliant Mindhorn and starring Jullian Barrett as a washed-up actor who is forced to reprise his role as TV detective Mindhorn in real life with the police to catch a killer.
