John Cusack Stars in Singularity Trailer and It Looks Terrible

Ordinarily, I don’t waste time with bad trailers, but this promo for Singularity starring John Cusack is so monumentally awful, I simply had to inflict it on others.

John Cusack is giving Nicolas Cage, John Travolta, and Bruce Willis a run for their money in making diabolically bad direct to DVD fodder that they wouldn’t have touched back in their respective heydays. Cage is winning the battle against himself to ruin his career for no other reason than Cage seems to have a new movie out every couple of weeks. That said, Cusack seems to show up in all kinds of dross lately, except for the Brian Wilson biopic Love & Mercy, he even teamed up with Willis for the forgettable actioner The Prince. Cusack also reunites with his Con Air co-star Nicolas Cage in the cop thriller Arsenal (aka Southern Fury), well, it was bound to happen eventually.

I digress, Singularity is a sci-thriller that borrows liberally from Terminator (more Genesis than Judgement Day) and a dozen or so other movies to produce something the makers of Sharknado would look down on. Here’s the official synopsis;

In 2020, Elias van Dorne (John Cusack), CEO of VA Industries, the world’s largest robotics company, introduces his most powerful invention–Kronos, a super computer designed to end all wars. When Kronos goes online, it quickly determines that mankind, itself, is the biggest threat to world peace and launches a worldwide robot attack to rid the world of the “infection” of man. Ninety-seven years later, a small band of humans remain alive but on the run from the robot army. A teenage boy, Andrew (Julian Schaffner) and a teenage girl, Calia (Jeannine Wacker), form an unlikely alliance to reach a new world, where it is rumored mankind exists without fear of robot persecution.

Singularity is out now.
