Sherlock: The Abominable Bride Showing In UK Cinemas

Sherlock fans are in for a treat as the highly anticipated Victorian Era set special will be shown in UK cinemas on January 1st. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman back in action for a very special one-off episode, The Abominable Bride relocates the modern day spin on Sherlock Holmes and takes the character back to his roots.

The announcement was made via a BBC issued a press release;

Sherlock: The Abominable Bride will see Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman reprise their roles as Holmes and Watson and the return of series regulars Rupert Graves, Una Stubbs, Louise Brealey and Amanda Abbingdon, in a one-off episode set in Victorian London in 1895. In addition to the 90-minute standalone episode, cinema goers will be treated to exclusive bonus material, including a guided tour of 221B Baker Street from Steven Moffat and a look behind the scenes at how the special episode was made featuring all the lead cast and crew

The episode will be shown in over 100 cinemas and participating venues include Picturehouse Cinemas, Odeon, Cineworld and Vue. The feature has also been mixed in Dolby Atmos sound technology and will be available at selected cinemas that have been equipped with Dolby Atmos.

Sherlock follows in Doctor Who’s footsteps with a theatrically released special, there are few UK TV shows that have the popularity to do this, and Steven Moffat is behind them both. Filming on the fourth series is due to start in the Spring, but no official broadcast date has been confirmed. Check out the latest US trailer below.
