After less than successful spin-off Ninjago and the modest hit The Lego Batman Movie, the long-awaited sequel to The Lego Movie is finally just a couple of month away from release. The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part has finally launched a new trailer jam-packed with fresh footage. I’m having a hard time accepting that The Lego Movie was released almost five years ago, but that is how long it has been since Everything Is Awesome has been playing on a continuous loop in my head.

Chris Pratt returns to voice rookie master builder Emmet, and he’s joined by Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Tiffany Haddish, Nick Offerman, Alison Brie and Stephanie Beatriz. Thanks to the talents of Chris Miller and Phil Lord, the first Lego Movie was so much better than it needed to be. Many saw it as a shameless corporate cash grab, which might be true, but it was a shameless corporate cash grab that had heart and wonder in equal measures. While Lord & Miller provide the script and are amongst the producer’s credits, directing duties for the sequel has been handed to Mike Mitchell (Trolls, Shrek Forever After)

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part is released on February 8, 2019.

The much-anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed, global box office phenomenon that started it all, “The LEGO® Movie 2: The Second Part,” reunites the heroes of Bricksburg in an all new action-packed adventure to save their beloved city. It’s been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are facing a huge new threat: LEGO DUPLO® invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than they can rebuild. The battle to defeat them and restore harmony to the LEGO universe will take Emmet, Lucy, Batman and their friends to faraway, unexplored worlds, including a strange galaxy where everything is a musical. It will test their courage, creativity and Master Building skills, and reveal just how special they really are.
