The hit series returns for a fresh run of episodes with everybody’s favourite crime-solving antique dealer, Jean White (Sally Lindsay), in the third series of The Madame Blanc Mysteries.
Hot on the heels of the 2023 Christmas special, series three finds Jean more settled in her new life. After initially moving out to the South of France to find out what happened to her husband, Jean has now become an integral part of the community and (over the last two series) has gained a tight-knit group of friends who aid in her sleuthing and help her solve crimes that often go unnoticed by the police. Deep sea diving, a murder at a bus stop, a kidnapping, a fencing duel, and a revelation from Jean’s past all feature in the breezy six-episode run from creators and stars Sally Lindsay and Sue Vincent.
Occasionally, the mysteries take a back seat to character side stories, but that in itself is a grand tradition of the cosy crime genre; it’s as much about the lovable characters and postcard scenery as it is about the crime of the week. It’s a winning formula that the likes of Father Brown, Death in Paradise, Beyond Paradise, Agatha Raisin, My Life is Murder, and countless others follow. If you’re a fan of any of those, this will be a welcome addition to that roster.
It’s as cosy as that slightly worn oversized jumper or soft blanket you only use in the winter or on a rainy night on the sofa. Get yourself a cheese board, perhaps the fizz of your liking, enjoy a hearty broth or sturdy soup if you’re so inclined, and spend the afternoon with The Madame Blanc Mysteries.
The Madame Blanc Mysteries series 3 out now on DVD, and you can also get a complete box set with all three series.
