Six years after the belated sequel to The Strangers, director Renny Harlin (Cliffhanger, Die Hard 2, The Long Kiss Goodnight) brought the franchise back with not one, not two, but three new movies. The first, The Strangers Chapter 1 is set to land in cinemas on May 17, and the first trailer has finally arrived.
After their car breaks down in an eerie small town, a young couple (Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez) are forced to spend the night in a remote cabin. Panic ensues as they are terrorised by three masked strangers who strike with no mercy and seemingly no motive in The Strangers: Chapter 1.
The mammoth production was approached as one giant movie, with filming taking just over three months to complete; speaking to the press last year, Harlin spoke about how the unique approach to filming made for a better and described production as;
“the challenge of a lifetime, but I also really embraced it. On a Monday morning, I could be shooting the second chapter, and Monday afternoon I could be shooting the first chapter, and Tuesday morning I could be shooting the third chapter. it was incredibly demanding for the actors, for the continuity in terms of the make-up and wardrobe, and for my director of photography, because we wanted to create a visual language that develops so that the movies get bigger, more epic, as we go [on]. It just kept all of our juices pumping all the time”.
It remains unclear when Chapters 2 and 3 will be released, but Chapter 2 could arrive in time for Halloween. Check out the trailer below.
