Kate Beckinsale is back in the catsuit for the fourth time for another round of Vampires vs Werewolves in Underworld Blood Wars.
The fifth entry in the action/horror franchise finds Beckinsale’s Selene back in action and reuniting with Theo James who was introduced in the previous sequel. Interestingly, Blood Wars started life as a reboot of sorts that would focus on James’ vampire David and a bunch of new characters. However, plans changed and from the looks of the trailer part five will serve as a baton passing follow-up.
Following in the footsteps of Bill Nighy, Michael Sheen, Charles Dance and Derek Jacobi, Game of Thrones star Tobias Menzies is the new big bad wolf on campus as Marius the leader of the Lycan resistance. There’s some guff about Selene’s blood being the key to something or other, but we’re here for the action and the trailer suggests there is plenty on offer. I know the Underworld movies aren’t big or clever, or well written and inherently dumb, but that’s kind of their charm. Don’t judge me.
Underworld Blood Wars is released in January, check out the trailer below.
Underworld: Blood Wars follows Vampire death dealer, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) as she fends off brutal attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her. With her only allies, David (Theo James) and his father Thomas (Charles Dance), she must stop the eternal war between Lycans and Vampires, even if it means she has to make the ultimate sacrifice.
