Honest Trailer: The Lost World [Jurassic Park]

Arriving conveniently in time for the release of Jurassic World, the Screen Junkies are back and have put together an Honest Trailer for Steven Spielberg’s The Lost World.

“This Time, It’s The Second Time”

Many critics are stating that Jurassic World is the best sequel in the 20 plus year old franchise, while that might sound like a glowing endorsement on the surface, neither The Lost World or Jurassic Park 3 managed to recapture the magic of the original. Then again, the same could be said for most long running movie franchises with the possible exception of the Fast and Furious, that franchise started out as a Point Break remake and wound up rivalling Mission Impossible in the insane stunts department.

Steven Spielberg has rarely dipped into the world of sequels outside this and Indiana Jones, sure, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull wasn’t great but Temple of Doom, Last Crusade are indomitable examples of how to make an excellent sequel. So, it always surprised me that Spielberg opted to return to Jurassic Park as topping it was going to be difficult. Turns out it was impossible as The Lost World is a far cry from its predecessor aside from two set pieces involving grass and glass.

We can all agree that as jumbled as The Lost World was, Jurassic Park 3 is easily the series low and frustratingly the movie just kind of ends when the military show up 85 minutes in. On a side note, JP 3 has never sat well with me as its brisk running time always felt like huge chunks were missing, while the DVD had some deleted scenes, I would have loved to seen a full extended cut. Purely for academic reasons.

So far, the critical response to Jurassic World has been favourable and you can look forward to my spoiler laced review over the weekend.
