Emma Watson stars alongside The Force Awakens’ John Boyega in an adaptation of Dave Eggers tech-thriller The Circle. Watson and Boyega play bright young things in a global technology company with grand plans for the future.
The Circle is run by Bailey (Tom Hanks) a charismatic pioneer who appears to be forging technology for the betterment of humanity. Naturally, there is more going on with the enigmatic founder than meets the eye. Regardless of what the subject matter or who else might appear in it, I’m automatically interested in a movie that features Tom Hanks. The man has barely turned in a duff performance throughout his entire career, and be it comedy, overly sentimental romantic comedies or a period drama; Hanks is always dependable. So the prospect of him playing an evil Steve Jobs type character is more than enough to get me interested.
If you’re a fan of Black Mirror (of course you are) and dark techno based thrillers in general, then you won’t want to miss this. Also starring, Patten Oswalt, Bill Paxton and Karen Gillian, The Circle is currently without a UK release date, but it hits the US on April 28, 2017.
A young female tech worker (Emma Watson) takes a job at a powerful internet corporation, quickly rises up the company’s ranks, and soon finds herself in a perilous situation, which that involves privacy, surveillance and freedom. She comes to learn that her decisions and actions will determine the future of humanity.
