The first trailer for the remake of Flatliners has arrived, and we finally get our first look at the long-awaited reboot. Much like the cult classic 1990 original, Ellen Page leads the cast of bright young medical students who are searching for answers to the oldest question, what happens to us when we die.
As remakes go, Flatliners looks fairly straight forward, the ghosts of the subject’s past come back to haunt their waking lives, only this time there’s a twist. Adding a pinch of Limitless into the mix, once the students come back from the other side, they return with a new set of skills. From suddenly being able to play the piano to acing every exam, the Flatliners next generation is enjoying some benefits from their journies to the afterlife.
It was reported some time ago that Kiefer Sutherland has a small yet significant role in the remake. However, a short time after that news broke, it was revealed that Sutherland would be reprising his role as Dr. Nelson Wright from the original making the reboot a belated sequel. Sadly, there’s no sign of Sutherland in the first trailer, but rest assured, he is definitely involved in some capacity. Based on the evidence of this first trailer, I’m yet to be sold that this remake/sequel is a good idea.
Joining Page are Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton, and Kiersey Clemons; Flatliners is released in cinemas on September 27, check out the trailer below.
In Flatliners, five medical students, hoping to gain insight into the mystery of what lies beyond the confines of life, embark on a daring and dangerous experiment. By stopping their hearts for short periods of time, each triggers a near-death experience. As the investigation becomes more and more perilous, they are forced to confront the sins of their pasts, as well as contend with the paranormal consequences of trespassing to the other side.
