Keanu Reeves stars in the first trailer for sci-fi thriller Replicas, and everything’s going a bit I-Robot. Reeves stars as scientist William Foster who is about to make a breakthrough that will change the world. The ability to transfer a human consciousness into a computer and subsequently a replica body. When tragedy strikes his family, Foster is faced with an impossible decision to try and keep his family together.
The trailer is somewhat confusing as the Replicas in question seem more like clones, but there are plenty of robots doing robot things, so what’s going on is anybody’s guess.
Reeves has been making some pretty interesting films these last few years since John Wick took the box office by storm. A supporting role in Netflix film To The Bone, and a scene-stealing performance in The Bad Batch, and that’s just this year. I won’t lie, Replicas does have more than a whiff of the forgotten Bruce Willis actioner Surrogates, and that’s unfortunately not any kind of compliment. Jeffrey Nachmanoff directs his first feature film since the 2008 Don Cheadle thriller Traitor, and Replicas co-stars Alice Eve (Star Trek Into Darkness), and Silicon Valley’s Thomas Middleditch.
There’s currently no release date for Replicas, but it’s expected to arrive in cinemas early next year.
In this sci-fi thriller, neuro-scientist William Foster (Keanu Reeves) is on the verge of successfully transferring human consciousness into a computer when his family is tragically killed in a car crash. Desperate to resurrect them, William recruits fellow scientist Ed Whittle (Thomas Middleditch) to help him secretly clone their bodies and create replicas. But he soon faces a “Sophie’s choice” when it turns out that they can only bring three of the four family members back to life
