Having just about saved the arcade in the first movie, lovable oaf Wreck-It Ralph is setting his clumsy sights on the entire internet. Disney’s Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 arrives in cinemas later this year, instead of a new trailer the first full synopsis for the sequel has been released.
Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 leaves Litwak’s video arcade behind, venturing into the uncharted, expansive and thrilling world of the internet – which may or may not survive Ralph’s wrecking. Video game bad guy Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) and fellow misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sara Silverman) must risk it all by travelling to the world wide web in search of a replacement part to save Vanellope’s video game, Sugar Rush. In way over their heads, Ralph and Vanellope rely on the citizens of the internet – the netizens – to help navigate their way, including a website entrepreneur named Yesss (voice of Taraji P. Henson), who is the head algorithm and the heart and soul of trend-making site “BuzzzTube.”
Believe it or not, it has been almost six years since the first movie, and the ever-changing gaming world is a whole new place. While not the biggest Disney release with $471 million worldwide, Wreck-It Ralph was a creative home run for The Mouse House, and huge Home Entertainment number meant a sequel was a viable option. The gaming world holds infinite possibilities for the future of Wreck-It Ralph, I wouldn’t be too surprised if an animated series were on the horizon. After all, Disney is going to need plenty of original content for its forthcoming streaming platform. That said, as Disney own Marvel, Star Wars, and now 20th Century Fox, I don’t think they’re going to struggle.
Featuring the voices of John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer, and Jane Lynch, Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 crashes into cinemas on November 21.
