Stephen King’s It isn’t the only blockbuster horror movie from Warner Bros this year with Annabelle Creation making more than $300 million worldwide. The latest instalment from The Conjuring Universe has shown some remarkable staying power at the box office, so much so, that it might overtake both of James Wan’s films as the highest grossing in the franchise.
The success of Annabelle Creation is good news for the expanded Conjuring Universe as Warner Bros has solo movies for The Nun and The Crooked Man in development. There is also a third case for The Warrens with The Conjuring 3, and a third Annabelle movie is all but a guarantee. That said, as we’ve thoroughly explored her beginnings with two prequels, the next time we see Annabelle will have to be post Conjuring. As The Conjuring films take place in the 70s, a modern day sequel for Annabelle is a perfectly plausible direction to take. Well, as plausible as a horror movie franchise about a possessed doll can be.
Set before the events of the first Annabelle spin-off, Creation takes us back to the creepy doll’s origins with a chilling tale of terror that definitively proves that all dolls should be purchased brand new and factory sealed. If three decades of Chucky films hasn’t left you with terrified of dolls, don’t worry, Annabelle is here to haunt your nightmares.
In “Annabelle: Creation”, several years after the tragic death of their young daughter, a doll maker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shut-down orphanage into their home. They soon become the target of the doll maker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.
Annabelle: Creation arrives on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download on December 4th.
