To mark the 30th anniversary of Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting, a brand-new feature documentary, Beyond Trainspotting: The World of Irvine Welsh, will receive its digital UK release on  February 16, courtesy of Miracle Media.

More than three decades ago, a Scottish writer put pen to paper and unknowingly reshaped the cultural landscape forever. That writer was Irvine Welsh, and the book was Trainspotting. Upon its publication in 1993, the novel became an instant cultural lightning bolt, capturing a raw, uncompromising voice that resonated far beyond Scotland.

The success of the book led to Danny Boyle’s seminal film adaptation, which catapulted its then little-known cast to international stardom and cemented Trainspotting as a defining moment in British cinema. The phenomenon went on to inspire sequels, theatre productions and an acclaimed stage musical, while transforming Welsh into one of the most influential and recognisable voices of his generation.

Directed by Ray Burdis and Ian Jeffries, Beyond Trainspotting: The World of Irvine Welsh sees the celebrated author reflect on his life and career from the very beginning. The documentary explores the personal tragedies that shaped him, alongside the development of his unmistakable literary style, marked by dark humour, raw honesty and a fiercely Scottish voice, and charts how his work made its indelible mark on literature, film and popular culture.
