Black Widow Trailer

Movies

Not letting a small matter like the untimely death of her character during Avengers Endgame, Marvel Studios has finally seen sense and given Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) her own spin-off. Set shortly after the events of Captain America Civil War and before Infinity War, the Black Widow solo movie offers fans one last adventure with Natasha’s past taking centre stage.

The first trailer for the film has landed, there are some heavy Winter Soldier vibes (high praise), and lashings of humour thanks to David Harbour Alexei Shostakov aka Red Guardian. If you didn’t know, Red Guardian is basically the Russian super-soldier counterpart to Captain America, who has let himself go a bit. The first teaser uses some of Natasha’s lines from Endgame to great effect, and (as we’d expect) there is action aplenty on offer. We also get a glimpse of a de-aged Thaddeus Ross (William Hurt) which is presumably a flashback as Hurt makes an appearance as 2016 Ross (heading up a task force to hunt her down?).

On the one hand, Black Widow should have had her own solo movie (and sequels) by now, but when the trailer looks this good, I’m not going to complain too much. Black Widow will also feature a previously unseen deleted scene taken from Civil War featuring Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark. It was reported at the time that new scenes were being shot, but it turns out they’ll just be repurposing unused footage to help audiences get a sense of WHEN this movie is happening.

Also starring David Harbour, Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle, and Rachel Weisz, Black Widow lands in cinemas on May 1st.
