Produced by James Gunn, written by Mark Gunn & Brian Gunn, and directed by David Yarovesky (The Hive), Brightburn offers a terrifying flip-side to the superhero genre, and a brand new trailer has arrived which you can watch above!
What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to humanity, he proved to be something far more sinister? With Brightburn, the visionary filmmaker of Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror.
Superhero horror? The last time those words were uttered, Ryan Reynolds donned a completely digital costume for Green Lantern. However, Brightburn is a fully fledged horror film that doesn’t hold back and highlights how easily the Superman origin story could have been something more nightmarish. Gunn is no stranger to subverting the genre with his underseen dark comedy Super that starred Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page. Since his exit from the MCU, James Gunn was snapped up by Warner Bros/DC to helm a soft reboot of Suicide Squad. Gunn’s script will still be used for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, and Disney is currently on the lookout for a suitable director.
The new Brightburn trailer has a bunch of fresh thrilling footage, and I’m all in on this! Starring Elizabeth Banks, David Denman, Jackson A. Dunn, Matt Jones, and Meredith Hagner, Brightburn is released in the UK on May 24.
