Hello from the other side.
The first trailer for director James Wan’s return to horror has finally arrived, The Conjuring 2 relocates to merry old England for dizzying retelling of The Enfield Poltergeist. As regular readers might know, I have a lot of love for The Conjuring and its love letter to old fashioned horror. Unlike many of its modern counterparts, The Conjuring doesn’t rely on blood and cheap tricks to unsettle its audience.
After Furious 7 raced to over $1.5 billion worldwide, you might have thought that James Wan was leaving horror behind in his rearview mirror. Wan has signed up to helm Aquaman for Warner Bros, but before he ventures back into big studio movies, he makes a welcome return to the horror genre. I don’t often get too excited about horror films these days, as a rule horror sequels are even less appealing, but The Conjuring was so impressive I can’t wait to see what Wan delivers this time.
Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprise their roles as supernatural investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, and The Conjuring 2 will be haunting cinemas on June 10.
Reprising their roles, Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga (“Up In the Air,” TV’s “Bates Motel”) and Patrick Wilson (the “Insidious” films), star as Lorraine and Ed Warren, who, in one of their most terrifying paranormal investigations, travel to north London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits.
