If you’ve been craving a smart, slow-burn crime thriller that knows exactly how to get under your skin, Dark Winds is once again stepping up to the plate with the highly-anticipated third season. This series has quietly become one of the most gripping and atmospheric shows on TV, and as a long-time fan, I’m thrilled to see it return with even more bite, more mystery, and more emotional weight.
Zahn McClarnon (Fargo, Doctor Sleep, Reservation Dogs) and Kiowa Gordon (Blood Quantum, The Red Road) slide effortlessly back into their roles as Leaphorn and Chee — one of the most compelling detective duos currently on screen. Their performances continue to ground the show’s blend of crime, trauma, community, and the creeping sense that the desert itself remembers every secret buried beneath its sand.
Season 3 picks up six months after last year’s finale, dropping us back into the Navajo Nation where Leaphorn is still wrestling with the ghosts of his past. A pair of missing teenagers, a bloodstained patch of desert, and a trail of tight-lipped locals drag Leaphorn and Chee into yet another investigation where no answer comes without a cost. The arrival of FBI agent Sylvia Washington (Jenna Elfman) only tightens the noose, digging into truths Leaphorn would rather stay buried.
With a fourth season already on the horizon, now is the ideal moment to catch up — or dive in fresh. Dark Windscontinues to be a rich, atmospheric, character-driven triumph that honours Navajo culture while delivering some of the most gripping crime storytelling on TV. It’s haunting, thoughtful, beautifully acted and, as ever, impossible to shake.
Acorn Media International will be releasing season 3— along with a hefty Seasons 1–3 box set on Blu-ray, DVD and digital on February 2, 2026, fresh off its run on U&Alibi, which starts tonight! This season also carries added weight as it features the final on-screen appearance of Hollywood legend Robert Redford, who exec-produced the series alongside George R. R. Martin. If you’ve yet to see this excellent series, do yourself a favour and binge it over Christmas.
