STUDIOCANAL has released a new 4K restoration of the spaghetti western Django Shoots First, with the cult favouritenow available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and Digital from August 24.

Directed by Alberto De Martino, the film was first released in 1966, the same year as Franco Nero’s better-known Django. This entry stars Glenn Saxson as Django, a gunslinger whose search for revenge begins when he discovers his father’s body in the possession of a bounty hunter. After killing the bounty hunter, Django heads to the town of Silver Creek to collect the reward money himself, only to learn that his father owned half the town. From there, he sets out to claim his inheritance from his father’s crooked former business partner.

Packed with bar fights, graveyard shootouts, double-crosses and dusty revenge, Django Shoots First remains a lively example of the spaghetti western boom of the 1960s. The new release forms part of STUDIOCANAL’s Cult Classics range and comes with a number of extras for collectors. These include a new interview with star Glenn Saxson, a commentary from Sid and Nancy director Alex Cox, a 12-page booklet, new artwork by Thomas Hodge, also known as The Dude Designs, and an O-card.

The original Django name became one of the most recognisable in European western cinema, with numerous unofficial sequels and spin-offs appearing in the years that followed. Django Shoots First may not be the most famous of the bunch, but its mix of revenge, inheritance drama and gunslinger chaos gives it a firm place in the wider Django canon.

For fans of spaghetti westerns, cult cinema and STUDIOCANAL’s restoration work, this new edition offers a chance to revisit one of the genre’s more entertaining offshoots in restored 4K.

Django Shoots First is available now on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and Digital.
