Ahead of the highly anticipated prequel series, Age of Resistance, which lands on Netflix tomorrow, those eagle-eyed people at Cinema Sins have unleashed their everything wrong with brand on Jim Henson’s beloved classic.
Released back in 1982, The Dark Crystal was a labour of love for Henson and co-director Frank Oz, ambitious beyond all measure, it was a big gamble, and while it didn’t make hundreds of millions, The Dark Crystal became an evergreen movie being passed down over the years. On first viewing, it can be an odd experience, we see puppets yet there is a dark almost disturbing tone, some find it off-putting, it’s what made me love The Dark Crystal from that first watch.
Puppetry is an art, and few have that art-form locked down like The Jim Henson Company, let’s not dwell on The Happytime Murders, it happened, let’s move on. The Dark Crystal Age of Resistance has been in the making for more than two years; an entire year was spent filming. The trailers present a lavishly realised world, and I can’t wait to dive into the whole season over this weekend. For a deeper look at the voice cast of the new series, check out this video from Netflix.
