After an even longer than expected wait for the new movie from Edgar Wright, the first trailer for his highly-anticipated Last Night in Soho has arrived. Initially set for release last year, Wright’s first psychological thriller is now set to be unleashed this October, and the first trailer is impressively twisted.
Written by Wright and Krysty Wilson-Cairns, the film features a fantastic cast that includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie, Matt Smith, Michael Ajao, Synnøve Karlsen, Diana Rigg, Terence Stamp, and Rita Tushingham. The exact plot is still a mystery, but it appears that there are some Goodnight Sweetheart time-shifting shenanigans at play.
In a previous interview with Wright, he discussed how a chance watching of Split led to casting Anya Taylor-Joy;
“I saw Split, and Anya plays an innocent girl who gets thrown into a situation. I thought, ‘Maybe she’s played Eloise. Maybe she should be Sandy. She’s so young and fragile that the film is going to be twice as scary.”
The trailer presents two timelines, with McKenzie’s character in the present day and Taylor-Joy and Matt Smith having a creepy old time in the 60s. However, nothing is as it seems. One thing is for sure; this is a very different side of Wright and one I am here for!
Here is the official synopsis for Last Night in Soho:
A young girl, who is passionate about fashion design, mysteriously enters the 1960s, where she encounters her idol, a dazzling wannabe singer. But 1960s London is not what it seems, and time seems to fall apart with shady consequences.
Last Night in Soho arrives in cinemas on October 22.
