“We always knew they would come back.”
The first trailer for the long awaited Independence Day 2 has arrived and it’s loaded with nostalgia. Independence Day: Resurgence might not have been able to tempt Will Smith back to the fold, but Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch and Vivica A. Fox reprise their roles from the original for round two of the ultimate game of intergalactic Risk.
Picking up more than 20 years after the human race didn’t go quietly into the night, Goldblum’s David Levinson has been preparing for the second wave of alien attack alongside a new generation. Also starring Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Sela Ward, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Joey King, Angelababy, William Fichtner and despite being killed in the first movie, Brent Spiner will be back as Dr. Brackish Okun.
Independence Day: Resurgence will land in cinemas on June 24, 2016, check out the first trailer below.
From director Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin, 1996’s Independence Day shattered opening weekend and total box office records, becoming the year’s top-grossing film. It also became the first movie in history to gross over $500m internationally.
But Independence Day was just the beginning. We always knew they were coming back. After that film redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter in the Independence Day universe delivers a global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
