Following in the footsteps of Jessica Jones, Marvel are looking at a former Dexter showrunner to take charge of Iron Fist. Scott Buck is in talks to oversee the fourth series under the Marvel/Netflix partnership. This latest development might come as something of a surprise as previous reports indicated that the series was being shelved. There had been whispers of a possible Netflix movie, but no official comments were made from Marvel.

While some sources are saying it is far from a done deal, Deadline spoke to Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb, and it sounds like Buck is on board.

“Scott came in with a take on Iron Fist that quite simply knocked us off our feet. We always look for the most creative minds in the field to help us bring our heroes to life, and with Scott we’ve found someone that can deliver yet another great series in the ongoing story of The Defenders.”

The Defenders will see Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage team-up for a mini-series event. It’s The Avengers of the small screen in the hard-edged world they have created. The bar for the Marvel/Netflix shows has been set exceedingly high; Daredevil was so good it made you forget about the Affleck movie and Jessica Jones, dear Joss that was intense. The Marvel movies have yet to give us a remarkable villain aside from Loki; the TV expansion has no such problems as David Tennant was on fire as Kilgrave. While TV has more time to develop its characters, the movies need to take note and flesh out their bad guys beyond one-dimensional exposition machines.

Luke Cage is currently in production and is due for release sometime next year, Daredevil returns (with added Punisher) in April and the second season of Jessica Jones is already in the works.
