Pan and Hanna director Joe Wright has been snapped up to helm an as yet untitled episode of Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror. While episode details on Wright’s episode remain under wraps, Deadline confirmed that Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World) and Alice Eve (Star Trek Into Darkness) will be leading the cast.
The cult techno-paranoia anthology series struck a deal last year with Netflix to produce twelve new episodes. Black Mirror has only had a total of seven instalments over two series’ and one Christmas special, but proving that quality trumps quantity every time the show has made a lasting impact. Earlier last year fantasy merged uneasily with reality when certain allegations about Prime Minister David Cameron eerily echoed the episode The National Anthem. The first ever episode of Black Mirror centred on a fictitious Prime Minister, who was forced to commit a disgusting act on live television to secure the release of a kidnapped princess.
While it is undoubtedly wonderful news that we have a dozen new episodes to look forward to, there are still no firm details on when we’ll get to binge watch it on Netflix. That’s the other thing, as both the previous runs of Black Mirror consisted of three episodes a piece, it’s still unclear how Netflix intend to release the new instalments. Ultimately the main take home here is that more Black Mirror is on the way this year and that can only be a good thing.
