John Krasinski Will Write A Quiet Place 2

Ever since Paramount scored a massively unexpected hit with A Quiet Place, a sequel to the monster blockbuster has been on the cards. Not wanting to rush the process, Paramount waited a while before announcing a follow-up was moving forward.

Director, co-writer, and co-star John Krasinski received much acclaimed for his inventive low-budget horror thriller, and Paramount were keen to keep him involved. CEO Jim Gianopulos previously stated that the sequel is being developed by ‘the same creative team’, and now Krasinski is officially on board to write. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Krasinski confirmed he’s currently working on the script.

“I had this small idea for a sequel, but I didn’t think it would go anywhere. So, I said to the studio, ‘Just go do the movie with somebody else.’ They heard some pitches, and I told Drew [Form, producer] about this little idea, and he told me to think about it a little longer. And then I thought, ‘This might really work.’ So, I’m currently writing the sequel.”

As to what that small idea could be, in a previous interview with Deadline, Krasinski had this to say;

“The thing that I loved in the movie where my mind kept wandering as we were making it, was the question of who was on the other end of those fires, when the father lights the fire, and in the distance, those other fires light up. How did those people survive? How did that old man survive? In the extreme these characters are going through, there’s no room to think about that. They’re there; there’s an old man who’s about to scream, they just have to deal with that. I think it would be interesting to see what’s going on elsewhere at this same time.”

It remains unclear if Krasinski will be directing the sequel, but there are two names missing from the original creative team. Bryan Woods & Scott Beck wrote the script for the first film before Krasinski joined the project and provided a rewrite. THR doesn’t speculate as to if Woods & Beck remain involved as previous reports confirmed they were developing the sequel.

I was pretty darn impressed with Krasinski’s directing talents, and A Quiet Place is easily in my top ten movies of the year. That said, as they created the chilling world that made A Quiet Place so unique, I hope Woods & Buck have a hand in the follow-up.

A Quiet Place 2 is due for release on May 15, 2020.
