Life, or rather Hollywood, has found a way to keep the Jurassic Park franchise rolling on, and the first trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has landed.
Following the $1.6 billion success of Jurassic World, a sequel was a given, but this time, the producers have added 100% more Jeff Goldblum. That’s right folks, Dr. Ian Malcolm is back to oooh and ahhh at the dinosaurs and offer up warnings that will be instantly ignored. The Fallen Kingdom finds Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard reunited to journey back to the abandoned theme park to rescue the dinosaurs before a volcano engulfs them all.
Director J.A. Bayona (A Monster Calls) takes over from Colin Trevorrow, and in a recent interview, he revealed that the sequel would be the scariest movie in the franchise so far.
“Jurassic is going to be much more scary than the previous films. You need to think that these movies need to appeal to a very big wide audience and that is very tricky. But if you think about the first Jurassic Park that was very scary. Remember that scene with the T-Rex in the car and the kid? You see that scene again and it’s quite dark and scary. Stephen Spielberg was very brave doing that with kids. I think somehow you can bring that back for a blockbuster film.”
While there was some enjoyment to be had, I can’t say I was a huge fan of Jurassic World. I’ll agree that it’s the best Jurassic Park sequel to date, but it didn’t have any of the magic and awe of Steven Spielberg’s original. Heck, even Spielberg couldn’t recapture that magic for The Lost World, so a lack of wonder in this franchise is hardly a new thing.
Also starring James Cromwell, Ted Levine, Justice Smith, Geraldine Chaplin, Daniella Pineda, Toby Jones, and Rafe Spall. Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom is released in cinemas worldwide June 22, 2018.
