We're making a few changes...sorry for the inconvience.

For many years, visionary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro attempted to get a live-action version of Justice League Dark off the ground at Warner Bros. Sadly, del Toro has since departed the project and Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow) has now been drafted in to finally (maybe) make it happen. Naturally, we should approach the apparent ‘fast tracking’ of Liman’s take of JLD with respectful skepticism, Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, and Etrigan the Demon are teaming up for a new animated DC movie.

The first trailer has landed online, and following in the footsteps of The Killing Joke; this will be a DC animated flick not aimed at the youngsters. As we’re neatly on the subject of The Killing Joke, I have to voice my disappointment at how one of the most iconic stories in Batman history was handled for its recent feature-length animated movie. Not only was the return of Mark Hamil as The Joker something of a non-event, but the film itself was also overly padded, and the harder tone felt overly forced. It appears as though the problems with the live-action DC Extended Universe does indeed extend to the animated world.

Justice League Dark features Rosario Dawson, Jerry O’Connell and Jason O’Mara return to voice Wonder Woman, Superman and Batman respectively. Also featuring the voices of Alfred Molina (Destiny), Jeremy Davies (Ritchie), Ray Chase (Etrigan), Camilla Luddington (Zatanna), Nicholas Turturro (Deadman), and Enrico Colantoni as the main villain Felix Faust.

There’s little evidence of an R-rating in this first promo, but director Jay Oliva recently told IGN that Justice League Dark will be more of a horror and unlike anything else on offer in the DC universe.

“My main goal was to make a horror movie with superheroes in it. That’s basically what we’re doing. There’s still action. It’s more like action-horror than anything, but we tried to have some scares, and make it feel different from what we’ve done in the past.”

Justice League Dark will be available on Digital download and DVD early 2017.

Justice League Dark finds the world under attack from supernatural forces that prompts the Justice League’s Batman to seek aid from occult investigator John Constantine. Constantine forms a team of other supernatural superheroes — Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, and Etrigan the Demon — to help save the world.
